Preservation Instead of Dismantling – Customized LED Solutions for Existing LuminairesPreserve designer luminaires, upgrade the technology, ensure operational safety — and all without major intervention in the existing installation: for the Rindermarkthalle in Hamburg, Marc Nelson lichtdesign, Hamburg, together with Lichtwerk, developed a comprehensive refurbishment solution in which existing luminaires could be retrofitted with state-of-the-art LED technology and integrated Bluetooth technology during ongoing operation.
The major challenge was to equip the existing designer luminaires with new LED technology while simultaneously meeting electrical requirements, thermal specifications, and operational safety standards. Lichtwerk developed three refurbishment solutions perfectly tailored to the project, which could be integrated quickly and easily via plug-and-play during ongoing operation.

Outsider
The distinctive “Qutsider” pendant luminaire by designer Jacco Maris continues to define the appearance of the Rindermarkthalle — now fully modernized with an LED retrofit insert.
The “Outsider” designer luminaire has been newly equipped internally with four 2x2 LED modules from the beo series, delivering powerful, flicker-free light while preserving its original design.
Luftschiff
The iconic “Luftschiff” pendant luminaire by Kranen/Gille was fitted with a custom LED retrofit insert based on the clip series, precisely adapted by Lichtwerk to the existing aluminum housing.
Thanks to the clip retrofit insert, the sculptural character of the “Luftschiff” luminaire has been fully preserved, while now offering homogeneous light distribution and high energy efficiency.
